Meet R0hl
Can you share a brief background about yourself as an artist? How did you get started in music, and what are some of your influences?
I’ve always had a passion for music, especially punk-rock and metal, but also electronic sounds. In the early 2000s, I went to my first party where there was a jungle/dnb track. For me, it was almost unknown because in my country, it’s a very “underground” style. The BPM, the bass, the rhythms—all of that got me hooked and obsessed. Then a small scene formed in my city, and I joined it as a spectator and as a DJ. I stayed that way until a few years ago when I took the leap to a higher step and decided to shape my own musical ideas.
What was the inspiration behind your track on this compilation? Can you walk us through your creative process for “Screaming Souls”?
My inspiration for this track is like a costume made from various scraps—my tastes, my friends at Stonx Music, and the global scene itself. This track was inspired by borrowed sounds, picked up from here and there, like gathering colors and putting them together to form a picture. Once conveniently twisted, they assembled together easily.
Are there any specific production techniques or tools you used in this track that you’d like to highlight?
Saturation is your friend.
Did you face any challenges while creating this track? How did you overcome them?
I am my own challenge. I have to fight against my own fears and doubts—I’m someone who sometimes questions my actions too much. The moment I let go of so much criticism and let my instinct guide me, everything tends to go more smoothly.
Is there a personal story or meaning behind this track that you’d like to share?
There’s only one phrase that was uttered at the time of the mix: “It’s Ollie’s fault.”
The Track
R0hl – Screaming Souls
“Screaming Souls” by R0hl is a dark, cyber-techy roller that embodies the essence of robotic dystopia. This track is pure distortion, featuring massive full-frequency bass, crunchy edits, and tight, upfront drums that drive the intensity forward. Inspired by a patchwork of sounds borrowed from various sources and twisted into something uniquely powerful, “Screaming Souls” is perfect for those peak moments when you want to maintain the energy on the dancefloor.
How do you view the community of artists involved in Disciples of Distortion Vol. 3? Have you collaborated with any of the other artists on the compilation before?
I think I am lucky to have my name next to such great artists and human beings. And although I have not yet collaborated with them directly, I hope that one day this will come to pass.
What can your fans expect from you in the near future? Are there any upcoming projects or releases you’d like to mention?
I am certainly working on it, and I hope to be able to give more details in the coming months.
What advice would you give to up-and-coming artists who are trying to make a name for themselves in the electronic music scene?
Don’t force events—things come with actions and work. Overcome frustration when it comes, and move forward with your dreams.
What do you hope listeners take away from your music and this release?
That they can feel the power of neurofunk.
Where can fans connect with you online?
