Meet Zionov ND

Can you share a brief background about yourself as an artist? How did you get started in music, and what are some of your influences?

I started my music journey producing hip-hop beats for local rappers, which eventually led me to experiment with trap music—it was quite popular at the time! My love for drum and bass began after hearing some friends play it, and I knew immediately that I wanted to try my hand at it. My first real encounter with neurofunk was through the 50th episode of the Neuropunk podcast, and from that moment on, I was hooked. I’ve been producing drum and bass for about 5 or 6 years now, and I enjoy exploring the full spectrum of the genre, from heavy to light sounds.

What was the inspiration behind your track on this compilation? Can you walk us through your creative process for “Tune”?

Initially, I set out to create a liquid drum and bass track with some neurofunk elements. However, as I progressed, the composition started to take on a heavier vibe, so I decided to fully embrace that sound. This shift in direction gave birth to “Tune.” It’s a track that combines a bit of humor with a solid, driving beat—a reflection of my desire to keep things light-hearted yet powerful.

Are there any specific production techniques or tools you used in this track that you’d like to highlight?

Definitely! I recently purchased a resynthesizer plugin, which has been a game-changer for creating sub-bass. It works wonders with samples and individual sounds, and it really helped me upgrade the entire sub in “Tune.” It’s always exciting to find new tools that can enhance your sound.

Did you face any challenges while creating this track? How did you overcome them?

I think every new project comes with its own set of challenges. For me, the biggest hurdle is always trying to innovate and bring something new to the table. But at the end of the day, my love for this music drives me forward, and that passion makes the process enjoyable, even when it’s tough.

Is there a personal story or meaning behind this track that you’d like to share?

The title “Tune” is actually a bit of a joke. It’s all about having fun and bringing good vibes. I wanted to create something that would put listeners in a great mood, and I think the light-hearted nature of the track reflects that intention.

The Track

Zionov ND – Tune

Zionov ND brings a fun, cheeky groove with “Tune,” a track that lives up to its name and stature. This big tune is characterized by swooping sub-bass and funky, techy drums that keep the rhythm infectious and the vibe lighthearted. “Tune” is a versatile groover that maintains the energy on the dancefloor, making it an essential addition for any DJ looking to keep the crowd moving smoothly.

How do you view the community of artists involved in Disciples of Distortion Vol. 3? Have you collaborated with any of the other artists on the compilation before?

The Stonx Music community, not just the artists on Disciples of Distortion Vol. 3, but the entire crew, is at an incredibly high level. I’m proud to be part of it. As the owner and manager of the “Crow & Bass” YouTube channel, I’ve had the chance to collaborate with many of the artists from this album, which has been a fantastic experience.

What advice would you give to up-and-coming artists who are trying to make a name for themselves in the electronic music scene?

My advice is simple: persistence and patience are key. Many up-and-coming producers already have a great sound, but they often lack the determination to finish their tracks. See your projects through to the end, and success will follow.

Are there any other projects, labels, or events you’d like to promote? Feel free to give a shoutout!

I’d like to give a shoutout to our local electronic music movement and the Rave Reborn and X Rave crew, run by DJ/producer/event promoter Urbanstep. Big up to everyone involved!

What do you hope listeners take away from your music and this release?

I hope my music brings people good vibes and a chance to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, even if it’s just for a little while.
