This week Ollie took a look at Puremagnetik’s EXPANSE a noise and tone generator Inspired by Larum’s Into a Bright Land.

Expanse was a pleasure to mess around with ,a relatively simple synth (if you can call it that) with 7 controls and explanations of what they do in the GUI itself., I found myself lost creating spacey grainy noises that would be perfect for any STONX intro or breakdown!

The Filter control gently sweeps up into the higher frequencies and plays really nicely at the beginging of the chain, feeding the signal onto delays and reverbs for a modulating morphing ambience.

Naturally i wanted to try and make some bass noises with this, so we exported some audio garble and began to play with wavetable synthesis and FM. OK so now we are miles away from what EXPANSE itself can do, but this was a really fun experiment!

A small but powerful VST that works great as a starting point for any atmospheric music! Definitely grab yourself Puremagnetiks EXPANSE NOW!
