As we embark on this new leg of our ‘Meet the Artist’ series, we’re about to uncover the story behind ‘Disciples of Distortion Volume 2.’ But first, let’s extend a warm welcome to H_MAN. With ‘Into The Light,’ he’s carved out a distinct niche within our music collective, offering a fresh perspective that seamlessly blends his metal influences into drum and bass. Where to find H_MAN
Could you share with us a glimpse into your musical journey and what initially ignited your passion for music production?
I play electric guitar in a metal band. When the COVID pandemic hit and lock-downs kept us from practicing together, I decided to explore my other musical interests.
As we delve into Disciples of Distortion Volume 2, could you walk us through the artistic process that led to the creation of your track?
There’s not much to say, really. It was January, cold and dark outside, and I just started producing.

What inspired you while working on this specific piece of music?
The inspiration for this track came from the winter season. I’m not a fan of the cold and darkness, so I channeled that feeling into my music.
When crafting your piece for this compilation, were there any specific sources of inspiration that played a pivotal role in shaping the final result?
I experimented with a less common arrangement, so the track doesn’t have a traditional break or a second drop.
Delving into your artistic influences, who are some of the key musical figures that have significantly influenced the evolution of your sound?
My influences are quite diverse, and if I had to choose, it would be artists from labels like Neuropunk, Eatbrain, Neuroheadz, and Blackout. Specifically, Mizo, Gancher & Ruin, and Aggressor Bunx have played a significant role in shaping my sound with their aggressive basslines and intricate drum fills.
Beyond the obvious, are there any unconventional musical inspirations or genres that have secretly impacted your approach to music production?
I draw inspiration from various genres, including Metal and Hardcore bands like Dead Like Juliet, Hatebreed, Last Chapter, Myra, Bleed from Within, While She Sleeps, Lorna Shore, Heaven Shall Burn, and the earlier work of Parkway Drive.
Can you share a particularly challenging moment you’ve encountered in your music production journey and how you overcame it?
I’ve only been producing for about 2.5 years, and not much has happened yet.
Reflecting on your artistic growth, how would you describe the evolution of your craft from your early works to your current creations?
I’ve learned a lot about sound design and understanding what a track needs. However, I’m still learning and have plenty of room for growth in these areas and others.
The music community often serves as a wellspring of inspiration and collaboration. How has your involvement in the Stonx Music community and joint efforts with fellow artists shaped your artistic identity?
I’ve been part of the community for about half a year, and I’ve learned more in that time than in the two years when I was producing on my own. The experienced producers in the community have helped me identify issues in my tracks, and I’ve gained valuable insights from listening to the work of other community members. Additionally, as someone who has no experience with DJ-ing, I’ve received valuable advice from DJs in the community on what’s important to get tracks played in a set.
Are there any fellow artists you’d like to give a shoutout to for their contributions or influence on your music?
Apart from the Stonxers, that would be Gancher & Ruin, Mizo and Art1fact. I love their music and through their Patreon presence they have given me feedback and information that has helped me a lot.
Neurofunk is known for its distinctive sound. How do you approach experimenting with and pushing the boundaries of the genre in your music?
I can’t offer too many specifics on this topic due to my limited knowledge. I’m simply experimenting with synthesizers, hoping to stumble upon some cool sounds.
While remaining rooted in neurofunk, are there any aspirations or curiosities you harbor about exploring other musical genres or styles in the future?
At the moment, I’m not particularly inclined to explore other genres, but who knows what the future holds?
What would you consider to be a significant highlight in your music career so far?
Being a part of ‘Disciples of Distortion 2’ is definitely the standout highlight for me, as it marks my first official release.
As you gaze into the future, what are the key milestones and creative ambitions you’re pursuing as an artist? Are there any dream collaborations or groundbreaking projects on the horizon?
My next step is working on releasing an EP. Additionally, I might embark on the journey of learning how to DJ.
What words of guidance would you offer to aspiring producers who aspire to carve out their niche and make a mark in the ever-evolving music industry?
Connect with other producers and share knowledge. Collaboration and learning from others can be incredibly valuable.
Are there any production tips or resources you wish you had known about when you were starting out?
Don’t over-complicate things. Keep it simple.
Beyond your music-making endeavors, how do you choose to spend your leisure time when the creative spark isn’t ignited?
I enjoy sports, hiking, raving, and playing video games (shh, don’t tell my mom).
Can you share a fun or quirky fact about yourself that your fans might not know?
I’m a bit lazy, but that laziness actually makes me more efficient, or at least I hope so!
As we conclude our conversation, is there any parting message or exclusive insight you’d like to impart to your devoted fans and listeners, providing them with a glimpse into your musical world, upcoming projects, or your ongoing journey as an artist?
