Where to find Skorpion
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in the world of music production?
You have me EPK
Let’s dive right into your contribution to Disciples of Distortion Volume 2. Can you give us some insight into the creative process behind your track?
Collision course. Things colliding. The sound design was inspired by a pileup I witnessed on the highway. When things in our lives barrel towards one another and connect in an show of force we can’t wrap our brains around very easily, we realize how fragile our lives are.
What inspired you while working on this specific piece of music?
I was writing this track during a pretty bad bout of depression in which I wrote 12 neuro tracks that have been releasing over this year across number of labels. All were inspired by sound design ideas rather than Melody or danceable hook. Sometimes you just need to trip down the rabbit hole and listen to sounds that evoke emotion. That’s what I am trying to achieve when I write this experimental style
Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound?
I am the only American with Noisia tattooed on their chest, nuff said 🙂
Can you share a particularly challenging moment you’ve encountered in your music production journey and how you overcame it?
The whole first few years. Feeling like it’s a hopeless pursuit and you’re not getting anywhere. Self doubt. Imposter syndrome. Things we all feel. We all need to keep pushing and loving music and then the music will flow from your heart once your hands and brain know how to operate your DAW
How do you feel you’ve evolved as an artist since your earlier work, and what lessons have you learned along the way?
I have learned to develop ideas that are meaningful to me rather than trying to work directly off references. Creativity can be stifled when you’re mimicking someone else’s sound. Experiment and create and if it sucks do it again.
The music community is often a source of inspiration and support. How has being a part of the Stonx Music community and collaborating with other artists influenced your work?
Since I joined Stonx over 2 years ago they have continued to provide an amazing worldwide community for neurofunk. I am so happy to be involved all the way from America and my heart grows two sizes every time a stonxer makes a big move!
Are there any fellow artists you’d like to give a shoutout to for their contributions or influence on your music?
Stonx Sindicate and the whole gang. SCEPTRE for his production tutorials, friendship, and collaboration.
Neurofunk is known for its distinctive sound. How do you approach experimenting with and pushing the boundaries of the genre in your music?
I experiment with off-standard drum patterns matched with chaotic bass lines that many labels may not find fits their sound. I am happy to be able to find platforms like STONX that appreciate this artistic expression.
Are there any other musical genres or styles you’re interested in exploring in the future?
I also release downtempo and deep dub under this Alias.
What would you consider to be a significant highlight in your music career so far?
VISION Radio premier. Release on 25 labels. Almost 20k monthly on Spotify!
Looking ahead, what are your goals and aspirations as an artist? Are there any dream collaborations or projects you’re working on?
100k on Spotify, play a festival, play in Europe, release music on VISION LABEL
What advice would you offer to up-and-coming producers who aspire to make their mark in the music industry?
Just keep loving the music and don’t worry about the rest. Enjoy the process
Are there any production tips or resources you wish you had known about when you were starting out?
Sceptre and Ahee on YouTube
When you’re not making music, how do you like to spend your free time?
Yoga, bjj, smoking weed
Can you share a fun or quirky fact about yourself that your fans might not know?
Chemistry PhD from Yale …blah blah
Is there anything else you’d like to share with your fans and listeners about your music, upcoming projects, or your journey as an artist?
Love you guys
